The Wall Street Journal recently reported that the IRS”s “Office of Taxpayer Burden Reduction” (more popularly known to you as TBR) is in search of recommendations on how to reduce “taxpayer burden”, meaning the amount of time and money taxpayers have to spend to comply with federal tax obligations.
Of course, if you want to provide some recommendations, you need to fill out a form, specifically Form 13285-A (perhaps the “A” is in anticipation of 25 additional revisions). The form has only four questions, with #2 asking “What is the problem?” and #4 asking “what is your proposed solution?” The Paperwork Reduction Act Notice estimates the time to complete the form at 15 minutes, presumably including the time needed to look up your name, address and phone number.
Interestingly, Form 13285-A ends with the sentence ‘”If you have suggestions for making this form simpler, we would be happy to hear from you. If you do have any such suggestions, you are to mail them to the IRS at 1111 Constitution /tie.., N.W. IR-6406 in Washington, DC, c/o Tax Products Coordinating Committee; SE:W:CAR:MP:T:T:SP.
Simplifying that address would be a good start!
